Progress to date/future areas of work: Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) began in 1992 and is a volunteer, non-profit, educational organizational. Its purpose is to promote changes in attitude and action necessary to achieve long-term social, economic and environmental health and vitality of San Mateo County. To be most effective in achieving these goals, SSMC has engaged many in the community, including government, business, education and social services in drafting their set of indicators. A total of 30 indicators were developed to illustrate the social, economic and environmental trends that characterize San Mateo County. Additional indicators may be developed in the future.
