Indicators Sorted by Issue Category such as Education and Air Quality

The issue categories were developed by combining the issue categories in the Guide to Community Indicators, Second Edition, by Maureen Hart, 1999 with the issue categories on page 19 of the Report from the SDI Group, 1998. The resulting issue categories were used to develop two sorted lists of indicators:

• The Sorted List of Local Indicators based on the indicators rated 5 or higher in Appendix A of The Guide to Sustainable Community Indicators, Second Edition, by Maureen Hart, 1999 (note, the SDI Group recommends a ranking of 5 or better if possible in order to provide a robust measure of livability) and

• The Sorted List of National Indicators based on the indicators in the Report from the SDI Group, 1998. In addition, links are provided in this list to:
  • Brief discussion of each indicator,
  • Summary graphic of the national data for the indicator,
  • Source of the data, and
  • Where available, a link to detailed data suitable for use at the local level
